What

The annual planting of fruit trees and trees for firewood in Burkina Faso.

Whom

The ASAP foundation co-operates with farmers in Burkina Faso. A part of their field is available for the new trees. The farmers take care of the new planted trees as well.

Where

On the fields of the farmers. They have allocated their land for the new planted trees. New trees will also be planted by the schools in all villages, built by the ASAP foundation.

Why

In rural areas of Burkina Faso is the main fuel wood. There is a lot of wood consumed, but much less planted back. This may occur on erosion of fundamental: especially in the rainy season many layers flush away. Planting trees is an important remedy for soil erosion and an imminent shortage of firewood. Also have trees a CO2 absorbent ability. The ASAP foundation plants also fruit trees.

How

The trees are bought by ASAP in Burkina Faso. To the survival of the fruit trees, the ASAP foundation buys already grown trees with an age of 1-2 years. The trees are fenced so that animals are not from the bark to eat. Since 2005, the ASAP foundation plants annually trees. In 2008, for example, 14100 ordinary trees and 1800 fruit trees were plant. About half of the trees survive the first year. The target is to cover 25% of the ASAP villages with trees by 2015.

Evaluation

Annually is we look how many trees survive. In 2015 can be checked how many percent of the villages is covered with forest.
