Water wells

What

Water wells for the rural residents of Burkina Faso in order to get access to clean and safe drinking water.

Whom

The wells are realized by local contractors, are accessible for all villagers and, if necessary, repaired by local technicians.

Where

The countryside of Burkina Faso, in all ASAP villages.

Why

Access to clean and safe drinking water is of vital importance, but in Burkina Faso is everything except, of course. To fight again hunger and diseases, access to clean drinking water is essential. That is why ASAP right from the beginning, actively promotes the realization of water wells in rural Burkina Faso.

How

ASAP realizes two types of water wells: a type of water well with a pump. This well is suitable for water consumption of people. The second type is a traditional, less deep water well with a Pickup mechanism with a bucket: intended for water consumption of the livestock.

A local contractor is attracted to the new water well. The village is responsible for the location of the well and will provide the necessary labour force for the carpentry works. The village people also compose also a watercomité for the management of the well.

Evaluation

The native organization of ASAP evaluates annually with the watercomités how the use and maintenance of the water wells.
