Description of the project

Until now we have only been concerned with primary school children. This new project is aimed at children who could go in the secondary school system. None of the village where we are active has a secondary school. Children do not go to the "college d'enseignement secondaire" because of lack of resources of the parents. When parents have to choose which children will go to secondary school, it is almost the boys who are sent. Girls are leaving their family when they get married, they are not a good investment. We would like to offer a certain number of scholarships to good and motivated students. The scholarship would include payment of the school fees, lunch at school and the loan of a bicycle in order to go to the school. Parents will have to pay the parents' association fee.

Sponsoring of such project means a long-term commitment since it will have to follow the student at least for 4 years if he performs well. The bicycle becomes the property of the student, only if he is successful with the exam passed in the 4th year. It is taken back if the student does not go from one year to another. The selection of the candidates will have to take into account school level and means of the parents. The school director will propose candidates for the scholarship: good school results (successful in the exam "entrée en 6ème") and parents without the resources to send the child to college or no parents. The selection will be made together with the parents association. A priority will be given to girls.

Responsibility

• Primary school director together with parents association to give a list of suitable candidates
• ASAP to make the follow up of the students during the school year
• ASAP to report on the progress of the student to the sponsor of the student
