On February 23rd, Eugenie arrived in Burkina with her sister Yvonne and niece Sandra. Yvonne and Sandra have already been in Burkina previously. This weekend Laura (manager of the galerie Burkin’art in the Netherlands) has arrived in Ouagadougou, it is her first trip. She will get here Monday night.
The last 2 weekends were spent out of the house. Last Sunday we went to the city of Banfora to visit the scholarship holders and this wee end we stayed at the LAP (Private Agricultural School).
Scholarships in Banfora
We have 44 scholarsip holders in 2 schools in Banfora (23 girls and 21 boys). In June this year 15 of them will try to get their final exam of secondary school (Baccalaureat) and 9 the exam after 4 years of secondary school (BEPC).
Besides some advice about how to study more efficiently, Yvonne had brought some balloons with her which were used to make some games with the students.
Day of the women
8th of March is the international day of the woman. In Burkina Faso besides many activities on this day, many people wear the clothes made out of a cloth of the day of the woman. The colors and design change each year. Men buy the cloth for their wife, women have shirts made for their men…. It is a very lucrative business for the cloth maker, the sellers and the tailors.

4 days spent at the LAP
At the LAP there is accommodation for teachers and for visitors. We took this opportunity to spend 4 days there. Friday we also visited the nearby village of Toungana.
Studies at the LAP
The children at the LAP have the same subjects to study as in any other secondary school plus agronomy and husbandry.
Many trees are in full bloom right now. Honey bees are really busy. Next week the hives will be harvested.
All the vegetables are used later on for the meals of the children.
Students watering the garden
Yvonne could recognize the tables and chairs. They come from the school where she teaches in Alkmaar.
Construction at the LAP
Many new buildings are coming out of the ground: nurse post, building for the grinding mill, dormitories.
Foundation of the grinding mill building and of the drying plateau
We have a lot of difficulties with stray cows, goats, donkeys. We have started to fence the LAP with barbed wire. The perimeter of the LAP is almost 3 km!!!!
Fun at the LAP
Yvonne and Sandra have also brought some material to play games with the students. This was very much appreciated by the children.

Lorsque le pouvoir de l’amour surpassera l’amour du pouvoir le monde connaîtra la paix.
When the power of love will surpass the love of power the world will know peace.
Le courage n’est pas l’absence de peur, mais la capacité de la vaincre.
